Post Graduate Experience
After completing Internship, I joined Orthopaedic Training program at Seth GS Medical College & K.E.M Hospital, Bombay from February 1985 to July 1988. During this period, I completed Diploma in Orthopaedics (College of Physician & Surgeon, Bombay) and Master degree in Orthopaedics from University of Bombay.
Thereafter, I joined Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgery Program at B J Wadia Hospital, Bombay and later Lecturer in Orthopaedics at GS Medical College & LTM Medical College, Bombay. During this period, I completed D.N.B (Diplomate of National Board) examination conducted by National Board of Examinations, New Delhi.
I was in the United Kingdom from 1990 to 1996. I joined the Birmingham Orthopaedic Training Program sponsored by the Royal College of Surgeons, London from August 1990 to July 1994. During this period, I completed the AO fellowship in Trauma and Joint Replacement under Prof. Reschauer at Linz, Austria. Thereafter, I joined the MCh program at the University of Liverpool and worked as a designated post of Registrar at Whiston hospital, Liverpool. The registrar post was sponsored by the Royal University Hospital, Liverpool during 1995
I returned to India and joined Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals, New Delhi in March 1996 as Consultant in Orthopaedics and Joint Replacement Surgery.
Joint Replacement Surgery
My initial training in Joint replacement and Arthroscopic surgery was in the United Kingdom where I started Orthopaedic training Program at Royal Orthopaedic Hospital and teaching Centre. I received training at various Hospitals in West Midlands and started performing primary Joint replacement Surgery in Hip and knee on my own.
At Dudley Road Hospital, I received training in resurfacing Hip Arthroplasty with Mr McMinn. During my training in the UK, I worked with many surgeons who were pioneer in primary and Revision Joint Replacement. As a part of my training, I attended many teaching courses on Joint Replacement including Exeter Hip Course and various courses held at the Royal College of Surgeons, London. I completed AO trauma & Joint Replacement fellowship at Linz, Austria in 1993.
In 1995, I completed MCh Orth course held by University of Liverpool. During this time, I was designated Registrar at Whiston Hospital where I did independent operation lists.
Ever since I joined Apollo Hospital, I have been routinely doing primary & Revision Joint Replacement Surgery and Arthroscopy Surgery of Knee including ACL reconstruction.
In 2003 I was conferred upon IMANDS Distinguished Service Award by Indian Medical Association for outstanding contribution in the field of Orthopaedics & Trauma surgery.
I have organized many seminars and workshops on Joint replacement Surgery and have delivered may guest lectures on this subject I am a member of different medical associations on Joint Replacement Surgery & Arthroscopy Surgery.
My interest in the trauma is mainly in polytrauma and complex trauma. My initial training in trauma surgery started as a part of Orthopaedic residency training in 1985 at Seth G S Medical College and KEM hospital. Thereafter I was Lecturer in Orthopaedics and trauma at R N Cooper Hospital and later at Lokmanaya Tilak Medical College and Sion Hospital. Both these Hospitals receive major trauma cases and have designated trauma centres. As a lecturer I was in-charge of the trauma centres at these hospitals.
Later my training in the trauma surgery continued in the United Kingdom as a Regisrtar. This was a 4 year training program in Orthopaedics and trauma surgery at The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital & teaching Centre, Birmingham which was sponsored by the Royal College of Surgeons, London.
During this period I worked at various Hospitals including Dudley Road Hospital, East Birmingham Hospital, Birmingham Accident Hospital and Royal Orthopaedic Hospital, Wolverhampton. East Birmingham and Birmingham Accident Hospitals are the major trauma referral hospitals in the West Midlands area and they receive all kinds of trauma including Polytrauma and major disaster victims. In 1995, I worked as a Registrar at Whiston Hospital, Liverpool and completed one year course in Orthopaedics and trauma surgery leading to degree of MCh. Orthopaedics – University of Liverpool, UK.
I did the Basic AO (trauma) course in 1990 at Nottingham University Hospital, UK and advanced AO course in 1992 at Davos, Switzerland. Thereafter I did AO fellowship in Trauma Surgery in 1993 at Linz, Austia. This fellowship is sponsored by AO, Switzerland and is offered at major trauma centres in Europe and USA. I have been a faculty of AO trauma and been instructor at AO courses. I am a member of the AO India executive committee
I completed ATLS (Advanced Trauma & Life Support) course in 1994 and Primary Trauma Course in 2003. I am an Instructor of Primary Trauma Course and have conducted about 12 such course all over India. This course teaches a physician how to approach and treat a trauma victim systematically
At Indraprastha Apollo Hospital which is a tertiary referral Hospital receives major trauma victims and complex polytrauma. I have been involved in the treatment of such cases since 1996
I am a life member of Trauma Society of India and have given lectures on the subject of trauma surgery in various national and international conferences.
